“Fragments” by Tom Wagner critically discusses 3 items that have recently appeared in the Israeli Daily Yediot Ahronot (Israel’s largest circulation newspaper). The first was a major headline based on a story that appeared in a very minor Lebanese newspaper reporting on Israel’s recent air strike in Syria. He claims that this was not meant to reveal a truth but to sell newspapers and that the use of a foreign newspaper as a source was simply a device to bypass the Censor – since they are simply quoting a foreign report and not violating security restrictions.
The second item has to do with a supposed hacker supposedly hacking into the new Harry Potter book before it was published. Wagner concludes that this was a complete sham and simply a publicity device of the publisher to generate media hype.
The third item has to do with the fallout of the bankruptcy of a major real estate developer and the tragic consequences of citizens who had invested all their money in apartments they will likely never get. The item reports that 14 other developers have now been put on the Ministry of Housing black list for not following proper procedures. Wagner claims that rather than serving the public this item will dry up the credit of these companies, driving them closer to bankruptcy and thus causing ever greater damage to the public.
