Many factors cause many of us to want the Arabs to miraculously vanish off the face of the earth; demographics, religion, existential fear, xenophobia, nationalistic racism….there are also different and diverse solutions to the unease of being too close for comfort: many espouse the transfer of the Arabs of the Territories, and also of those Arabs who are Israeli citizens; there are those who believe in the power of enclosure – and two geographers suggested a population exchange plan between the overpopulated areas in Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The desire to be rid of the Arabs is also manifest in the political sphere: several transfer parties were a success – and the attempt to promote social and other issues in the election campaign for the 17th Knesset (Israeli Parliament) is perceived as out of context and inconsistent with the public's current mood.
