The underlying difference between the right and the left is the contradiction between power and equality. The right considers power to be the basic principle of reality, and therefore it strives to preserve the existing order (since it serves those who possess power); conversely, the left believes in full equality between people – and therefore strives to change and improve the existing order, so that the weak and the controlled will enjoy the rights and benefits of the powerful and those who are in control.
This distinction is applicable to the political-social-economic reality in Israel: the right supports continued occupation and the link between capital and government – whereas the left strives to provide freedom and rights to the Palestinians and to improve the socio-economic status of the weak. This fact is not apparent to the masses who continue to support the right.
