The root of Evil – The Primaries

In a representative democracy – such as in Britain or the United States – two large parties vie against each other for control over the state. The representatives of the winning party rule the country according to their own discretion, and they are entitled to diverge from the mandate that was given to them (mainly in issues relating to foreign affairs and security) due to a change in circumstances. The public that elected the winning party accepts this divergence, even if it runs contrary to its opinions.

Conversely, in a participatory democracy – such as in the State of Israel, where the electoral system is based on multiple parties and primaries – the minority's active opposition to the government's divergence from the mandate it was given arouses tension and dispute. We must switch to a regional-metropolitan electoral system, so that the State leaders will be able to do their work effectively.
