The centrist electorate in the State of Israel is comprised of the middle class and the upper-middle class, and its ideological standpoints are not firmly based. Since it is the dynamo of the Israeli economy, which carries public bureaucracy as well as significant parts of society on its shoulders, it is frightened by Amir Peretz's socio-economic approach – and prefers the sense of stability provided by Ariel Sharon.
This public – which may be called the 'disengagement stratum' due to its support for the aforementioned process – will not want to vote for Amir Peretz, who in many ways is a neo-Communist. However, the Arab votes and the votes of the radical Jewish left may put the Labor Party back into power. In such a case, Amir Peretz will become Prime Minister with the help of Ariel Sharon.
